In pursuit to promote Lesotho as a preferred destination for travel, a delegation comprising private sector players such as tour operators, hotel and hospitality operators, event organizers, tour guides, recreational parks owners, and hikers will be led by Lesotho Tourism Development Corporation (LTDC) while attending the annual World Tourism Market (WTM) in Cape Town from 09th-11th April, 2025. Around forty-three (43) tourism sector players will take part in this renowned expo. Research has revealed that WTM Africa 2024 saw over 10,500 pre-scheduled meetings over three (3) days, ninety-nine (99) countries participated and 126 conference sessions were held.
World Travel Market (WTM) Africa is the leading exhibition for Africa’s leisure travel industry, bringing the world to Africa and promoting Africa to its leading source markets. WTM Africa is the leading Business to Business expo for both inbound and outbound travel and tourism markets in Africa; and a never to be missed travel and tourism event that offers a diverse range of destinations and industry sector players.
This event provides a platform to increase tourism related business opportunities, network with like-minded industry peers, meet with relevant suppliers and partners and form mutually beneficial business relationships, over the three days under one roof. The main objective of Lesotho private sector attending WTM Africa 2025 in collaboration with LTDC is to position Lesotho as a “must-visit” destination for travel and investment. Lesotho will be showcasing its offerings, thus, its unique attractions, culture and investment opportunities to mention a few. The platform will also capacitate the participants with knowledge on industry trends and innovation, afford them networking and collaboration which will foster strategic partnership aimed at increasing access into new markets and the regions – all of which will boost the economic performance of Lesotho.
Megan De Jager, Portfolio Director for RX Africa stated the theme for the event as “Ignite Africa”; which she basically indicated that, the event intends to create a platform for real dialogue, connection and collaboration, and to bring together brilliant minds in the industry to shape the future of African tourism.
Heads of delegation in both Lesotho Tourism Development Corporation (LTDC) and Lesotho Council for Tourism (LCT) indicated that WTM Africa presents an opportunity for private sector to interact with travel experts and gain valuable insights about destinations and travel trends.
The vice Chairperson of LCT, Ms. Tumeliso Makubakube was upbeat and said most lodging facilities will be the first-time attendants at this expo; and indicated that more focus will be in building business partnerships, learning from the gurus in the travel, tourism and hospitality. “It’s really gratifying to see lot of tourism stakeholders who are eager to attend an expo with 80 percent of the attendants that have already registered”, concluded Ms. Makubakube
