LTDC BRINGS BACK TO SCHOOL CHEER TO HA RAMOKOATSI PRIMARY SCHOOL
The Lesotho Tourism Development Corporation (LTDC) proudly hosted a heartfelt Back-to-School outreach programme at Ha Ramokoatsi Primary School in Mafeteng on 30 January 2026. The initiative brought renewed hope and excitement to learners, who received essential educational supplies including school bags, mathematical sets, school socks, and other vital learning materials.
Through this gesture, LTDC not only equipped the learners with practical tools for the classroom but also inspired confidence, motivation, and a strong sense of possibility as they embark on their academic journey for the year ahead. This initiative forms part of the LTDC’s mandate to promote sustainable tourism development by working closely with local communities, supporting education and nurturing future generations who understand and value of tourism and culture.
The initiative aimed to motivate learners at the beginning of the school year and to show LTDC’s commitment to community development, especially around areas where it operates. Speaking at the event, LTDC Acting Head of Finance and Administration Ms. Maseabata Taoana said the school was chosen because of its close connection to LTDC. “We chose Ha Ramokoatsi Primary School because it is in close proximity to the park. It shares its name with Ha Ramokoatsi Park, which is under rehabilitation and administration of LTDC. “We believe it is important to give back to the community that surrounds our tourism sites,” she said. “LTDC believes that investing in education aligns perfectly with its mandate in tourism development and ensure that communities around tourism sites benefit directly” said the Director.
The learners were rapturous upon receiving gifts and expressed their heartfelt gratitude with joyful smiles for the support they received, saying the initiative had motivated them to focus more on their studies. “We are very happy and would like to thank LTDC for the school essentials. This encourages us to learn more, work harder and improve our passion for better education. It makes us believe that our future is important,” said Mr. Karabo Leeto speaking on behalf of all the students.
To entertain their guests, the learners mesmerized the audience with vibrant performances of traditional Mokhibo and Ndlamo perfomances, proudly showcasing Basotho culture and adding colour and excitement to the day’s celebrations. Beyond receiving school essentials, the learners also participated in a brief educational session that introduced them to the concept of tourism, its importance, and how it contributes to community development and job creation across Lesotho.
The school board also welcomed the initiative, highlighting its wider impact beyond classroom. “Support like this does not only help our learners academically, but it also teaches them about tourism and culture. “‘When children are introduced to tourism from a young age, they develop a deeper appreciation of their country and its attractions, which ultimately benefits Lesotho’s tourism sector,’ said Ms. Pulane Ramokoatsi, speaking on behalf of the school board.”
The back to school event demonstrated how education, culture and tourism are closely linked and how empowering learners today, helps build a knowledgeable and tourism-conscious nation for the future. LTDC continues to use this event to strengthen relationships with communities and to promote awareness of tourism from an early age.
The back to school event at Ha Ramokoatsi Primary School showed how LTDC’s mandate goes beyond promoting destinations to uplifting communities and investing in the future of the country. By supporting education, promoting cultural awareness, and teaching young learners about tourism, LTDC continues to build a strong foundation for sustainable tourism development in Lesotho. Such initiatives not only inspire learners to dream bigger and work harder, but also ensures that future generations grow up understanding the value of tourism in driving national pride, economic growth and community development.
