3 Ranges Trail: The Pinnacle of Adventure in Lesotho

Lesotho’s mountains are calling! Get ready to explore Lesotho like never before! The 3 Ranges Trail, the name is derived from the three mountain ranges through which the trail traverses: Thaba-Putsoa, Takalatsa (Central) and the mighty Drakensberg mountain ranges. It’s a 288,3 kilometer expedition spanning 14 days.

The 3rd edition of this extraordinary journey was officially launched at a press conference on 9th September 2025. It is spearheaded by the Thapoha Hiking Club with strong support from the Lesotho Tourism Development Corporation (LTDC), Metropolitan, and Standard Lesotho Bank.

The trail begins at the confluence of the Senqu and Makhaleng Rivers in Morifi, Mohale’s Hoek – Lesotho’s “highest lowest point” at 1,389 meters above sea level. From there, hikers traverse through jagged peaks, breathtaking passes, and sweeping valleys, culminating at Thabana Ntlenyana, the highest point in Southern Africa at 3,482 meters.

LTDC supports the event because of its alignment with the corporation’s mandate of promoting Lesotho as a preferred adventure and eco-tourism destination. The 3 Ranges Trail isn’t just about endurance, it’s a journey of Culture, Resilience and Eco-tourism and breathtaking landscapes – all in one unforgettable hike. Along the way, travelers will explore wonderful highlands, meet friendly communities, and celebrate the heritage of the Mountain Kingdom.

The 3 Ranges Trail is more than an adventure product; it is a drive for conservation, cultural pride, and sustainable growth. It invites Basotho and international visitors alike to explore, connect and celebrate the Kingdom’s most treasured landscapes
