The Accommodation Star Grading Programme known as Lesotho Quality Star Programme (QUALStar), is a quality assurance system used to categorise and assess the quality, amenities, and service standards of accommodation establishments. The grading system, often using a 1 to 5 star scale, with 1 star being the minimum star grade, and 5 being the highest obtainable star grade. This system provides a standardised tool for guests to gauge the level of comfort and luxury they can expect from an establishment.
There are 6 different categories that an establishment is weighed against; and these are:

Aspiring establishments
Grading information and guidance can be provided as early as business idea generation stage. It is important for all entrepreneurs who aspire to venture into the hospitality industry to incorporate the grading programme in their business idea formation style. This equips them with requisite information and guides them towards positioning their accommodation facilities internationally (competitive advantage).

New establishments
These are establishments which are complete and sometimes already operating. These establishments are assisted through the handholding process until they qualify into the programme and eventual get graded.

Existing structures
These can be complete and incomplete buildings; i.e. a house or home or structure build for other purposes which could be complete or incomplete, that the owner want to “convert” into an accommodation establishment. The owner is handheld depending on the condition of the structure or building and advised accordingly under all the necessary renovations that conform to the required standard, and once achieved, the establishment can be graded.
